When assisting a woman with disabilities through pregnancy and labour:

  • Learn about the possible problems a woman with a disability may face during pregnancy or child birth
  • Talk to her about the importance of eating well, medicines, and health exams during pregnancy
  • Help her learn how her disability may (or may not) affect child birth
  • Do not assume that because she is disabled, she cannot have a vaginal birth
  • Respect her decision to have a child, and do not assume she cannot care for her baby
